The golden rule for mentorship
In this video, Faith Mabelwanga gave the best possible advice regarding getting mentorship from anyone, directly after investing $25,000 into a mentor.
He said, “If your mentor doesn’t have a mentor, I wouldn’t take any of their advice.”
This is truth.
If someone advises others solely from their own knowledge and no external guidance, their advice will be limited to their own experiences and beliefs. However, if they do have a mentor, they can cross-check and refine their guidance through an additional perspective.
Great mentors seek out mentors of their own because they recognize the limits of their knowledge.
On the other hand, if your advisor refuses to learn from others, it’s a sign of arrogance.
Therefore, ask the people teaching you where and how they’ve gained their insights. Not in a rude, but in a curious way.
📖 Today’s book bit
Dr. Benjamin Hardy
Your future self is the decision-maker of your present actions.
Book: Be Your Future Self Now
Who you aspire to become should guide your choices today. Take intentional action aligned with the experiences your future self has gone through.
Your future self is an avatar of (of course) yourself… but a few years ahead. He has already accomplished the goal you’re currently thriving after and guides you through looking back on the path he has already walked.
If you’re not ready or able to get a mentor, try creating one of these avatars for yourself. You might be surprised by the knowledge you can tap into with this mental frame.
🚿 Today’s shower thought
A mentor doesn’t give you the answers, they ask you the questions you’ve been avoiding.
