Overexposed & Underwhelmed

When social media desensitises your perspective on success

Making an extra $600/mo could be life-changing.

Although it doesn’t massively evolve your life, it does give you a lot more breathing room.

There was a time I signed a new client for $600/month right after basketball practice. My teammates were cheering for me, but I was calm. It was normal. It meant nothing to me.

However, since reflecting on this moment, I realised there were two reasons why I wasn’t moved by it.

📲 I was desensitised by social media

After repeatedly being exposed to people my age making hundreds of thousands online. I felt like $600/mo is meaningless. I compared my extra income to people’s on social media… bad idea.

It wasn’t after developing my mind and experiencing the real world, that I’ve seen that any extra amount of cash is handy and lightens the stress.

Don’t compare your now to others’, you are not the same person.

🏦 The money didn’t hit my bank

I made a mistake: I didn’t collect the payment on the phone. Because of this, the client had time to get distracted and forgot about paying me altogether.

Lesson: Always collect payments BEFORE leaving the meeting.

Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.
Book: 12 Rules For Life

I compared myself to people who were clearly ahead of me, not to where I was the day before. Don’t deprive yourself of gratitude. It’s okay to celebrate wins… even if they feel small!

shops are designed for people to chill, whereas alcohol is a depressant but bars and clubs are designed for people to be energetic
